Photo Time: Forcing Forsythia Blooms!

How magical! Fresh flowers in the middle of winter!

But first, a photo of the budded forsythia branches I cut a few weeks ago. I was hankering for some flowers to brighten up the dreary, so I tried my hand at some winter blooms.

I think I may have picked the branches too early, delaying the flowers a bit, but they did eventually appear! All I did was put the branches on a bright windowsill and change the water every day, making sure the new water was nice and warm to mimic springtime. The miracle of nature did the rest! So simple. I’ll definitely be doing this again. It may be cherry blossoms next time!

By the way, my kitty did her best to deter the blooms, dumping the jar multiple times and sheering off buds with her razor-sharp teeth, but the flowers persevered in the end!

The following photos are the same branches as above, beginning to show their spring finery…

The last photo is Mila, perplexed that, despite her best efforts, her worthy forsythia foe emerged victorious!

I think I’ll have the fortitude to hold on a few more weeks now that there are sunny yellow flowers in the house!

Sending warm thoughts your way! 🙂
